VERTEX SERIES DISCIPLINE
STYLE
Difficulty, creativity and individuality in one complete performance.
UNDERSTAND THE DISCIPLINE
DIFFICULTY, CREATIVITY AND INDIVIDUALITY IN ONE COMPLETE PERFORMANCE.
Originality, execution and overall expression.
OVERVIEW
WHAT STYLE REWARDS
Style can include large tricks, acrobatics, flips, twists, creative combinations and unusual movement choices, but the goal is not simply to perform the single biggest trick. The complete run should feel technically strong, creative, distinctive and controlled.
- Technical execution
- Difficulty and commitment
- Creativity and originality
- Obstacle interaction
- Individuality and overall impact
Difficulty should reward genuinely demanding movement, not unnecessary risk.
COMPETITION STRUCTURE
COMPETITION FORMAT
Style consists of one Qualifying Round and one Final. Each performance is a 30-second run.
COURSE FAMILIARITY
Before each competition round, athletes receive a 45-second warm-up/familiarity period to assess lines, take-offs, landings, combinations and obstacle interactions.
QUALIFYING RUN
Each athlete performs one 30-second run scored out of 50 points.
TOP SIX ADVANCE
The six highest qualifying scores advance to the Final, subject to the published tie procedure.
FINAL RUN
Each finalist performs a new 30-second Style run. Qualification scores do not carry over.
HOW PERFORMANCE IS MEASURED
JUDGING CATEGORIES
Style uses four judging categories with a maximum raw score of 50 points before applicable deductions.
EXECUTION
Landing quality, control, balance, accuracy, stability and overall technical quality.
DIFFICULTY
Technical and physical difficulty, acrobatic complexity, demanding combinations and obstacle interactions.
CREATIVITY
Original movement, inventive combinations, unique transitions, variety and personal style.
OBSTACLE INTERACTION
Varied and meaningful use of the environment, levels, structures and transitions between obstacles.
SEASON POINTS
SEASON RANKING POINTS
The qualifying score is converted into season-ranking points. The Final determines event placing and adds a placement bonus.
- The qualifying run provides the main performance-based ranking score.
- The Final is independent and determines event placing.
- Finalists receive placement bonus points.
FINAL PLACEMENT BONUS
A perfect qualifying score of 50 converts to 1,000 ranking points. Winning the Final gives a standard event maximum of 1,100 points.
IMPORTANT COMPETITION RULES
KEY RULES & TIE-BREAKS
FIELD OF PLAY
Athletes must compete within the designated competition area. Boundary errors are normally handled by deductions rather than automatic invalidation.
QUALIFYING TIE
Category priority: Difficulty, Creativity, Obstacle Interaction, then Execution. If a qualification cutoff remains exactly tied, the tied athletes may all advance.
FINAL TIE
The same category priority is used first. If still tied, a Style Showdown is conducted. A second Showdown may be used; if still tied after that, a shared placing is awarded.
RERUNS
Reruns are reserved for verified technical or competition issues outside the athlete’s control, such as timing failure, equipment movement/failure or external interference.
This page is a public summary designed to explain the discipline clearly. The current Vertex Series Competition Manual and event-specific instructions remain the controlling rules.

How is an exact Final tie resolved?
After comparing the category scores in the published priority order, unresolved ties move to a Style Showdown.
